Is God Your Partner?
August 31, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

This sermon was first delivered in the West Puerto Rico Conference and is based on a book "So You Want To Be A Leader" by Robert Pierson.

I. A Businessman Sought A Helper To Help Him Worry

 A. Newspaper ad - Salary $30,000.00. All the helper had to do was worry about the bosses problems.
 B. A job candidate asked "In what way will I receive it?" The answer: "Para Ud. Que Queire Ser Dirigente." p.131 Translation: That is the first thing you need to worry about.

II. Lender In The Cause

 A. P. Pearson in Asia.
  1. Worker had been deported.
  2. Functionary - cut funds.
  3. Cable received from officials at the division - an accident had occurred on the train.
There were plenty of things to worry about. We have plenty of things to worry about.
 B. Similar situation in Africa. All countries at war or revolution.
  1. "Neither know we what to do." . 2 Chronicles 20:12. How many times do we have things that we really don't know what to do about them?
  2. The devil is wroth. Revelation 12:12,17.

 C. "We are laborers together with God." 1 Corinthians 3:9. Thank goodness we are not alone. We are laborers together.
  1. We can receive help. James 1:5.
  2. Job 12:13. Ask of God. In him is wisdom and strength.
  3. John 14:26. He shall teach you all things.
  4. MH:410 "When they are afflicted, many thing that they should speak to some earthly friend to tell him of their concerns and ask his help. In difficult moments unbelief fills their hearts and the way seems dark. Nevertheless, the powerful Counselor of the ages is always at their side inviting them to place their confidence in Him. Jesus, the great Helper says to them, 'Come unto me, and I will give you rest.' Shall we leave Him and go after fallible human beings who depend on God as we do ourselves?"
It is easy to think some human will solve our problems when God is anxious to solve our problems and show us the way.
  5. MH:389 "God will not consent to let any of His faithful workers struggle at great disadvantage and be overcome. He keeps as a precious jewel every one whose life is hidden with Christ in Him. Of each one He says, "I will place you as a sealing ring, because I chose you."
  6. GW:277 "If we give our lives to His service, we will never find ourselves in a situation for which God has not made provision. Whatever our situation, we have a Guide to show us the way; whatever perplexities, we have a wise Counselor; whatever our pain, affliction or loneliness, we have a Friend that sympathizes with us."
 D. Construction on Andrews Hospital in Jamaica. A financial crunch occurred while trying to finish the hospital. There was no human solution.
  1. MH:382 "To provide for our needs our Heavenly Father has a thousand solutions about which we know nothing. Those that accept the simple principle of making the service of God supreme imprtance will see their perplexities disappear and an open road will appear before them."
He has a thousand ways to solve our problems.
  2. Dr. C. R. Anderson relates: After prayer, three letters were received in one day that solved the problem immediately.
   a. Check and letter from the western part of the country - Lady sent $1500.
   b. Customs letter of $3000 overcharge being returned.
   c. Government sent $20,000 to help finish the hospital.

III. Let's Make The Lord Our Partner

 A. MH:389 "He that is full of the Spirit of Christ lives in Christ. Whatever happens to him comes from the Savior who surrounds him with His presence. Nothing can touch him without the Savior's permission. All our suffering and sadness, all our temptations and trials, all our sorrow and grief, allow privations and persecutions, all, in a word, contributes to our well being. All the events and circumstances work with God for our good."
Do we see God's leading in our lives? Do we see his guidance in our lives?
 B. Proverbs 3:26,5; Isaiah 34:16 Mighty Counselor; Romans 8:28; Romans 8:26 We don't know how to pray. The Spirit helpus us. He intercedes.

 I. God does not want us to pass sleepless nights. Hebrews 4:3; Proverbs 3:24; Psalms 127:2; Psalms 4:8; Psalms+3:5.

IV. We Are Responsible Before God

 A. Hugh Latino - "The Kind will be present".
 B. Proverbs 5:1. Listen to God's council.
 C. Let's seek divine aprobation.
  1. Violinist - at his first concert. The hall was filled with people. After he played the concert hall was filled with applause, but he was not satisfied. He kept looking around until he saw an old man smiling. It was the maestro who had taught him to play.
  2. Galations 1:10. Seek to please God, not men. There are always people who do not see things God's way. Seek to please God. Jesus saught to do the will of this Father. "He set his face as a flint." "Not my will but God's will."
