Fruits of the Spirit I
July 13, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

Galations 5:32 The Fruits are of the Spirit - not our fruits.

Acts 5:32 Fruits are given to them that obey Him.

Luke 11:5-13 A story and application. There is a long list of things we think we need. But if we ask God, he will give them to us.

Ephesians 4:30 Grieve not the Holy Spirit - not reject or postpone when he comes to you.

Love
There is plenty of love on TV - rather, it is romance. This is not the kind of love Jesus has for us.
A definition of Love: Romans 13:10 Love works no ill to his neighbor. No revenge, no harm. It will seek good.

1 John 5:3 Demonstrate love in His commandements.

Romans 12:9 It is not to be fictitious.

Romans 5:8 Best demonstrated in the life of Jesus. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

Joy
While I was in Venezuela, my children were leaping with joy one day when I announced they were going to the beach.
You may have seen basketball players that seem to float in the air. But when I try to "float" I seem to have something that weighs me down.

John 15:11 A balloon that is half full is not much fun. But when it is full, it floats and is fun for children.

Acts+2:28 Joy is found looking at Jesus's countenance.

Romans 15:13 Joy is given by God. Receive it by looking at the countenance of God.

Peace
John 14:27 Fratricidal war killed 300,000 people in Columbia while I was there. Then things seemed to die down, but then it all built up again. Peace is not to be found. Today we remember 9/11, and the war in Afganistan as well as other places that might pop up at any moment. But we can have peace.

Phillipians 4:7 God's peace goes beyond our ability to explain.

Romans 5:1 The most important thing about peace is that it brings us in oneness with God.

Colossians 3:15 Paul says to leat peace rule in our life.

Longsuffering
Longsuffering is the fruit of love.

1 Peter 3:20 God's longsuffering toward Noah is an example. Have you ever been to the barbarshop and had several people in front of you, and it takes longer than you expect? Or maybe at a doctor's office in the waiting room there are many people? God waited 120 years for people to accept the message he gave Noah to preach.

2 Peter 3:9 Patience with us. All of us are to have this longsuffering. Remember how Jesus told Peter that we should forgive seventy times seven?

Some of you in the congregation have given your hearts to God in this last year. Aren't you glad that God has this longsuffering?
