Witnesses for God
May 25, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

I. Christ On The Mountain. Acts 1:6-8; Isaiah 43:10,12.

 A. They were to be witnesses.
 B. Beginning at home.

II. We Are To Let Our Lights Shine. Matthew 5:14-16.

 A. Light reveals a great deal. At home when I am reading labels on cans, I need more than my reading glasses, I need light. Light reveals clarity.
 B. God's desire for us. Ephesians 5:26,27. The church is represented as pure white linen.
 C. That which contaminates. Matthew 15:19.

   1. Evil thoughts. Contamination begins with thoughts.
    a. Proverbs 23:7 "As he thinketh in his heart..."
    b. Suspicious, envy, contempt, hate. You cannot be a witness with these in your heart.

   2. Murders
    a. Anger. Matthew 5:22. Murder begins with a thought.
    b. The Lord places these feelings equal with the act.

   3. Adulteries which proceed out of the heart.
    a. 1Corinthians 6:13,15-20.
    b. A fellow student at Union College had a situation similar to Joseph in Egypt. He simply got up and left.
    c. The end. Jude 1:9. Fire is a terrible way to die. Remember the World Trade Center where people were leaping out of windows 70, 80 or 90 stories up to avoid the fire. Yet God says sin will be punished by fire.
    d. Villa Rica Columbia - When visiting at the church the Pastor was going through the list of members with the leaders to see who needed help. Several on the list had fallen into the trap of the 7th commandment.

   4. Thefts
    a. Romans 13:13. Many thieves operate at night. Paul tells us to walk as in the day as an honest person would, so that people can see what we do.
    b. Ephesians 4:28.

   5. False witnesses - lies.
    a. Psalms 151:1-3. A false witness, or lieing is just as much a sin as murder.
    b. Ephesians 4:29. Be careful what you say.
    c. Lies Colosians+4:29. A lady at the college where Pastor Roberts was teaching told him that she liked to lie. She liked to see people's eyes get big when she told a whopper.
    1. To whom do we belong John 8:44; Titus 1:2.

   6. Blasphemies. "Insulting word against God." - Cardenas. Millions of Christians say they are serving God but choose not to look at the fourth commandment.
    a. The fourth commandment. A man decided to keep the Sabbath but he wouldn't work to support his family. He forgot the part of the 4th commandment that said "6 days shalt thou labor".
    b. Worse than an infidel. 1 Timothy 5:8.
    c. Work is delightful.

   7. Pride Proverbs 8:13. Satan is the author of pride.

III. God Makes This Appeal. Joel 2:13.
Turn unto the Lord your God.
