Saving the Flock
April 20, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

Jeremiah 13:20 The question is asked of parents "Where is thy flock?"

Hebrews 2:13 Hopefully the answer is that your children are of the same mind as you.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go.

Isaiah 49:25 God gives a promise - I will save thy children.

The events of September 11 should illustrate to us how important it is that we teach our children now to be faithful. There are numerous examples of this from the Bible.

  • Daniel was taken to Babylon and remained faithful.
  • Joseph was carried to Egypt and remained faithful.
  • Luke 2:40, 52 Jesus was taught by his monther.

Deuteronomy 6:7 First teach children disipline. Jesus says if you love me keep my commandments. Teach by our example - Love - a love that demonstrates respect and honor.

Church schools - The very best public school only prepares us for this present life. Councils to Teachers page 32: "Love ... is the basis of true education."

Pastor Roberts related that he had gone to public schools and learned to respect other people, but not to respect God. He did not learn love for people or for God in public school.

Councils to Teachers page 37: "The knowledge of God ..."

Councils to Teachers page 49: "To bring men back into harmony with God is the purpose of eduction."

This is far different than any of the goals of public eduction. Nothing is of greater importance than the education of our children and our youth.

Every child in our church is a member of our family. The expense ofthe education of children should be shared by all members of the church. Matthew 19:14 Let the children come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven.

Pastor Roberts concluded with a special prayer for our children.
