The Faith That Can Do All
March 30, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

This Sabbath was the Easter weekend, and Pastor Roberts sermon about "The Faith That Can Do All" reflected that spirit.

Luke 18:18 A question asked of Jesus by the rich young reuler was "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" The rich young ruler was not just talking to a good man. He was talking to the Son of God, who had the last word on this subject. At this season we ask ourselves - Do we have eternal life?

Revelation 14:12, 1 John 5:4 These texts describe the saints. It is the faith of Jesus. Saints are those that have received His faith.

Two characteristics of what faith is not:

1. "Faith is not feeling."
Faith and feelings are two different things.

 2. "Faith is not presumption."
1 Corinthians 13:2 Faith without love is nothing.
Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the evidence of things not seen.

Romans 12:3 Everyone has a measure of faith. Some people are like Gideon, doubting that God can do anything with them. He was not a leader or soldier. He asked for a sign - twice. He had a measure of faith, but he needed more faith. Faith is a belief and trust that brings obedience.

On the other hand, Joshua belived, ahd his belief grew. He ultimately commanded the sun to stand still upon Gibeon; and the moon to stand still in Ajalon in order to finish the battle. He commanded it asking God, believing that God would honor his faith. We must exercise our faith in order for it to grow.

How many disciples believed that Jesus was going to rise from the dead? We must believe now that Jesus rose from the dead that the tomb is empty. By faith Caleb and Joshua went into the promised land, not having a vision of giants, but having a promising report.

David slew Goliath by faith.

Sampson's early lack of faith was overcome when he leaned on the pillars in the temple of Dagon. He exercised his faith and slay more pople in his death than in his life.

When the Advent movement began, many didn't believe that we could reach every country in the world. It seemed impossible. But it was possible, and as our leaders exercised their faith, God blessed them.

Join me today is saying, "Lord, today I have a measure of faith. Increase my faith."
