March 9, 2002 James Winegardner James Winegardner presented a sermon that asked the following question. Is your religion a: In other words, Is yours a mystical religion or a mythical religion. Things that have great meaning often become masked by ritual over time. Some revival preachers say you only have to believe. Believe what? You can believe things that will kill you. You can convince yourself of things that are not true. Do you believe in coincicdence? Is there a mystical power that controls you, or not? If things happen, they happen for a reason. There are some miracles that are predictable - springtime, the sunrise. But there are other real miracles like healing that are not so easily predictable. In these cases relevent past performance is not a predictor of future behavior. So do I have to believe in miracles to be saved? Luke 22:66-70 The Pharisees ask Jesus what he was. The book Liar, Lunatic or Lord asks the same question. We have to choose. Which one was Jesus? Liar, Lunatic or Lord? I believe that you can be saved without believing in creation, or in the gift of prophecy. You cannot be saved without believing that Jesus is God. 1 Corinthians 15:12-19 So the question is: Is Jesus alive? If so, then the miracle that brought him to life is available to you. You either believe in the resurrection or you believe in nothing. 1 John 4:13-16 Have you accepted the mystical miraculous religion of Christ? The revival preachers were right. |
