January 19, 2002 Pastor Bob Roberts Pastor Roberts resumed his study of Daniel. Key Text: Daniel 8
Daniel 8:1-2 Daniel saw a vision that surprised even him. His vision was of a ram with 2 horns. Daniel 7:17 Beasts indicate kings or kingdoms. The ram indicated a king or kingdom. Daniel 8:20 The ram with two horns represent the kings of Media and Persia. Daniel 8:5-8 The ram was destroyed by a goat. Daniel 8:21 The goat is Greece, and its ruler is Alexander the Great. Daniel 8:9-10 The little horn is Rome. Daniel 8:11 Rome exalted itself against Christ. It killed all 2 year olds when he was born and it crucified Christ. The daily sacrifice that was taken away represented Christ John 1:29 which takes away the sin of the world. When Christ was crucified, the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom. Christ's work on earth then moved to a heavenly sanctuary. Pastor Roberts related a story from Columbia, where he observed that when people passed a place of worship, they removed their hats and bowed. He asked them why they did this and they answered him that they found forgiveness at the altar in the church. They were expecting forgiveness on earth instead of in heaven. Truth is made up of 5 aspects:
Daniel 8:11 The greatest mistake ever made by humanity was casting the truth down to the ground. Daniel 8:13-14 Truth was not cast down forever. It was cast down for 2300 days (next week's topic). Because truth was cast down, people were left in darkness. Truth was unknown by many people. Daniel 9:25 The 2300 years began at the command to rebuild Jerusalem in 457 BC. The 2300 years ended in 1844. Around 1844 people began to study prophecy. They thought the end of the world was going to happen. 1 John 1:7 We have the privilege of knowing what the truth is. And we have sent missionaries throughout the world. Matthew 24:14 Jesus said This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations and then shall the end come. Proverbs 4:18 The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. As we read the Bible and understand the truth, God calls us to walk in the light. Some people hold back because of certain problems. 2 Corinthians 6:2 Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. Let us not hold back on accepting the truth. |
