A Foul Blot
January 12, 2002
Pastor Bob Roberts

This was the week where the quarterly ordinances of footwashing and the bread and the wine were performed. Pastor Roberts presented a brief sermon in preparation of the services.

Key Texts:

John 12:24-25

The book Counsels on Stewardship page 22 has a paragraph that disscusses a foul blot.

"We are placed on trial in this world to determine our fitness for future life. None can enter heaven whose characters are defiled by the foul blot of selfishness. Therefore, God tests us here, by committing us to temporal possessions, that our use of these may show whether we can be entrusted with eternal riches.

The book Testimonies volume 5 page 204 says that selfishness, the sin of the world has become the prevailing sin of the church.

Everyone must examine his own heart to see if this applies.

Luke 16:10-12

Revelation 3:17 Describes the condition of Laodicia. 2 Timothy 3:4-5

The pastor then related the story of J. Hudson Taylor, a missionary to China. He discovered that the more he gave, the happier he became. On on situation he gave his last money to a starving family.

Matthew+16:24
